Mananeh Group

Here are members of the Mananeh Group, who are all businesswomen in the Tonkolili district headquarter town of Magburaka. They are applying for a loan of 500,000 Sierra Leonean leone each from Kiva lenders through SMT. This will be the first loan this group is accessing from SMT/Kiva.

With the help of this loan, they will be able to improve their businesses, make more sales and increase profits. Consequently, these women will be able to improve their standard of living – they can look after their children better and be able to meet most of their domestic needs.

Kadiatu Kargbo (on the left) is the leader of this group. Kadiatu was born in Magburaka town about 45 years ago. She is married to a businessman and the two of them have three children. Two of their children are in Junior Secondary School I (JSS I), and the eldest is doing some farming for a living. Kadiatu has been a businesswoman for seven years. She sells market food like rice, pepper, “margi,” onions, oil, etc.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
