Antoney Group

Here is Rugiatu Kanu and Zainab Bangura. They named their group Antoney. They are all local entrepreneurs in Makeni, in northern Sierra Leone. This is not their first loan from Kiva through SMT. They had all previously received several loans from Kiva through SMT. Each one of them in the group received a loan of Le 800,000 during the last loan cycle. That loan created meaningful impacts in the lives of these borrowers. They were able to use the proceeds to pay for their children’s school fees. They’re also able to feed and clothe themselves and their children with the income generated from the loans. Today, they are requesting a loan of Le 1,000,000 each to buy more goods to add to their businesses.

Rugiatu Kanu (left) is the leader of the group. She is thirty-five years of age. She was born in a small town called Robuya Romende, in northern Sierra Leone. She now resides in Makeni with her husband and three children. Her husband is also a businessman and two of her children are attending school and the other is not of school going age. Rugiatu sells slippers, she has been a businesswoman for fifteen years now.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
