Freedom Ladies Group

Mavis is 47 years old. She is married with two kids, both boys. One is at the university and the youngest is at the primary five in school. She is a vendor of hardware goods, like assorted paints, nails, roofing sheets, hammer, PVC pipes, brushes, trap nets etc., in the community where she lives. She takes delivery of stock from Kumasi in the Ashanti region. She buys from importers at wholesale prices and sells to her customers at retail prices. She requests a loan to enable her to increase her stock of paints, nails, hammers, etc., to accelerate her business' progress. With the loan, she hopes to increase savings to expand her shop to include the sale of cement. She desires to provide a better education for her children and would be grateful for the assistance.

She is the leader of a trust bank group called ‘Freedom Ladies’. She is the one sitting in the group photograph. Most of the members of this group are petty traders, food vendors and farmers. In this group, members guarantee for one another as social collateral to access the loan and use peer pressure to repay the loan.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
