“LUCERITO DE JOSÉ GALVEZ”

Two years and ten months ago, the “Lucerito de José Galvez” Microfinance Institute was formed in AA.HH. San Antonio – Chosica. The group members are people who had to be self-employed due to the different hardships that they were facing. The group members sell: clothing as street vendors, picarones (pumpkin fritters covered with syrup), wool knitwear and macramé, handicrafts, live chickens, car rentals.

They are currently in their ninth loan cycle. During this time, their previous loans have helped them implement and improve their businesses.

Such is the case of Gloria Cochachin García, the group president, who has been selling household cleaning products for the past 4 years. She started out with a little bit of capital and purchased detergents and disinfectants. As time passed, her business grew. She now sells a variety of cleaning products. Furthermore, with her profits, she has started to buy and sell motorcycle taxis, giving monthly payments. Her profits are now bigger than before, so she can help place her two youngest children in an academy so that they can enter a university in the future. She will invest this loan in merchandise (detergents, disinfectants, and room deodorizers). These are the products that her customers request the most.

Llacsa Cochachin Cristina, the group secretary, is Gloria’s daughter. Like her mother, she has also been in business—selling school uniforms, T-shirts, pantyhose, underwear—for 4 years. Her job contributes in providing her 4-year-old daughter with a decent living. Cristina will invest in purchasing sandals and T-shirts with this loan.
