Mrs. María Blanca Tenelanda Morocho is a member of the communal bank “Sucre” which is 50 minutes outside the city of Cuenca, in the Cumbre parish. She lives in the Manano Loma neighborhood.

María Blanca is 41 years old, married, and has 8 children ages: 21, 19, 16, 15, 13, 10, 8, 3. Her 4 oldest children take classes online and work Monday through Friday as employees in an hacienda. Her three youngest children are students in Cumbe’s elementary school. She has been separated from her husband for 6 six years because he was no good. He was abusive and left them and doesn’t pay child support. In spite of this, María Blanca is happy at home because she is surrounded by her family. She has become both mother and father to her children.

María Blanca takes care of the house and raises animals like guinea pigs, chickens, and sheep. She spends a lot of time selling her animals and is having a lot of success with this business. She has been able to support her family this way. These loans have helped her buy animals and helped to her to find economic stability.

This is her third loan with the foundation and she tells us that what she likes best is the low rate of interest Espoir charges. This helps her make her payments. She also likes the trainings on health, investing, etc. Above all, she likes the atmosphere of her communal bank because the members are friendly and everyone gets along because they have become good friends who support each other through thick and thin.

She plans to invest her loan money in the purchase of chickens, guinea pigs, and pigs plus animal feel and vitamins to help them grow.

María Blanca hopes to be able to give her children good educations and wants them to become professionals in the fields of their choice.

A Bit Behind on Loan Payments, but Persevering!

Entrepreneur: Maria Blanca Tenelanda Morocho
Location: Cuenca, Ecuador

Ms. Maria Tenelanda has invested her loan to purchase chickens. She says that a few chickens have been sick, and so she needed to buy medicine. But now, all the chickens are healthy and are nearly ready to be sold. Maria says that she is a bit late with her loan payments because her child is sick because he used a laundry soap to wash his face, which of course burns your face. Therefore, she needed to purchase medicine to make him better, which is why she is late with her loan payments. But overall, she is well and tells us that she is benefiting from the loans to purchase animals to continue her business.
