Roberto came to the United States from Jalisco, Mexico 13 years ago. After working at an auto repair business for 7 years, he decided to branch out on his own. Roberto needs a $10,000 loan to purchase a lift and equipment for his new auto repair shop, Aztek Enterprises.
Although he has been in business for just four months, he has already secured a contract with a large company to service and maintain trucks for their regional office. Roberto is thankful that his family and friends are spreading the word about his business to help bring him success. Roberto’s wife helps out in the shop when she can and when she is not busy studying English and caring for their two children.
Roberto hopes to expand his shop in the future so that he can serve more clients and help the community by hiring more employees. Roberto recently heard about Kiva and signed on to the site as a lender so that he could find and help his acquaintances in Mexico with their businesses. While searching through the site, he found Opportunity Fund and was very excited to learn about loans and business advising available to him in the U.S. Roberto feels strongly that more services should be available to small business owners like himself who may not be considered bankable, and he is grateful to Kiva and Opportunity Fund for giving him this opportunity.
