Fatoumata Diarra N° 2 is 37 years old, unmarried, and the mother of one child, with whom she lives in the ATTBOUGOU district of Ségou (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

A representative of the administration, she is a personal assistant of the management in a public agency. Concurrent with her professional obligations, she has been running a business selling incenses and clothing for fourteen years and enjoys great recognition. Her countless customers are composed mostly of civil servants. She receives orders both domestic and foreign. She is in demand for marriages because her merchandise is highly prized by newlyweds.

Here is the process of making this exquisite and sensational product: you need 2 kg of magnonkisèni (an exotic plant) seasoned with perfumes and eaux de cologne (30 bottles) for a month in order to have a nice scent.

Concerned about increasing her sales and about coping with customer demands, Fatoumata turned towards Soro Yiriwaso. She has been associated with this micro-finance institution for 36 months. After four solidarity loans and an individual loan, all properly repaid, she is now on her second individual loan. As the holidays approach, she intends to use the loan to buy 10 kg of incense seeds (magnonkisèni), five outfits made of ’less-rich’ damask, and some clothing made of ‘wax’ cloth.

She stocks up locally at the big market of Ségou and accepts cash or credit in her sales to customers, who are composed exclusively of women for the incense. And for the clothing, they are both women and men.

Fatoumata plans on realizing a monthly profit of 75,000 francs CFA that will be use to support herself, and the rest will be invested in her businesses. Her ambition is to build a house for renting out.
