Mrs. Mildred Bantiling, a 28-year-old married woman and the mother of one, is a resident of Prk. Balunggay, Palaka Norte, Pulupandan, Negros Occidental. She says that putting up a business was not easy – especially when they had virtually no money to start it – but she had an intense desire to have her own business and help her husband support their young family. Mildred joined NWTF-Project Dungganon in 2004 so that she could have access to start-up capital, even if it was just a small amount.

With the help and support of NWTF-Project Dungganon, Mildred started a sari-sari (general store) where she sells a variety of household commodities. She has slowly expanded her product offerings with subsequent loans, by re-investing some of her profits back into her business. Now, in the addition to the usual stuff sold in sari-sari stores, Mildred also sells frozen food, Ready-to-Wear dresses and offers an electronic loading service for pre-paid mobile phones to her neighbors. This earns her an average income of PHP 18,000 per month.

Mildred plans to use her tenth loan cycle of 20,000 PHP to expand the product offerings in her sari-sari even further, so that with the profits, she can finally make some improvements to her home.
