Nokwaredie Group

Agnes is 55 years old she is married and the mother of six children. Two of her children are in school whiles the rest are working. She is very resourceful to her family in provision of food and payment of bills. She is a farmer, food vendor and sells kenkey with fried fish taking with pepper spice. She sells kenkey in the mornings and in the afternoon. Kenkey is prepared from milled maize grains, cooked and taken with hot pepper and fried fish. She has many customers since many Ghanaian enjoy kenkey as breakfast, lunch and supper. She wants to use the loan to buy more raw materials like bags of maize, meat, fish, vegetables and firewood. She hopes to increase her savings to support her children’s education.

She is the leader of a trust bank group called ‘Nokwaredie’ which literary means ‘Truthfulness’. She is the one sitting in the group photograph. Most of the members of this group are petty traders, food vendors and farmers etc. In this group, members guarantee for one another as social collateral to access the loan and peer pressure to repay the loan.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
