Mrs. Thy Saem Group Loan

Mrs. Thy Saem is the group leader of a six-member group who all live in Chrouy Slaeng village in Takeo province.

Mrs. Thy Saem is 35 years old and the mother of five children, one of whom is a fruit seller, another three are enrolled in the local school, while the youngest one is too young to work or study. Her husband, Mr. Em Somaly, is a construction worker.

Mrs. Thy Saem is a fruit middle woman (wholesaler). Aside from this business, she also raises pigs. Since both of her businesses are doing well, she wants to expand them by purchasing more fruits to sell and piglets to raise. She hopes to increase her income and improve her family’s living conditions with this loan.


All the members in this group loan have end-of-term (EoT) loans so they are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loans term. EoT loans are AMK’s main product because they are the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. EoT loans allow them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make their payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time. AMK has a delinquency rate of only 0.09% and a default rate of 0% on Kiva.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
