Mrs. Thavy Tum, 41, and her husband, Mr. Sopheap Theng, 41, were married in 1988 and have two children: one son who attends school and one daughter who assists her mother in the business. The family lives along National Road Number One about twenty kilometers from Phnom Penh.
Thavy has been selling cucumber pickles and fruit for eight years. She buys them from her village and other nearby villages, and resells them at the market in Phnom Penh. Her husband has been a motor taxi driver for three years and also assists in his wife’s business. But, his motorbike is old and breaks down and he decided to sell it.
Hence Thavy is applying for a loan of $1,200 in order to purchase a new motorbike for her husband to continue his motor taxi business. She will use a part of her loan to purchase one more shop for her daughter to sell cucumber pickles.
