Ropolon Group

These people are Hassan S. Turay and Fatu Conteh. They call their group Ropolon, named after the village of the group’s leader. They are local entrepreneurs in the town of Magburaka, about fifteen miles from Makeni in northern Sierra Leone. This is the fourth time they’ve received a loan through SMT. Previous loans have had meaningful impacts on the lives of these borrowers. They were able to use the proceeds to pay their children’s school fees. They’re also able to feed and clothe themselves and their children with the income generated from the loans. They are requesting a loan of Le 2,600,000 to buy more goods to add to their businesses.

Hassan S. Turay (left) is the leader of the group. He is forty-one years of age. He was born in a village called Ropolon about two miles from Magburaka town. He is married with four children between the ages of ten and twelve. Hassan has been selling ready-to-wear-clothes for the past ten years now.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
