Sara Miguelina Ruiz Ruiz

Señora Sara is 63 years old. She and her husband live with their 15-year-old adopted son. Sara has a business making handicrafts such as earring and accessory stands, placemats, and embroidered cloths and towels. She also hand-decorates shoes. Her husband sells cell phones and other phone equipment. Sara and her husband also earn income by renting rooms in their home in the city of Pucallpa.

Sara has been working with Manuela Ramos for nine years and is a member of the communal bank “Las Almendras” (The Almonds). She plans to use this loan of 2000 soles to invest in materials for decorating shoes and also in improving the doors for the rooms that she rents.

Sara can count on her husband’s support for her business ventures. She and her husband are completing the construction of more rooms to rent out on the second floor of their home. Sara also owns a piece of land outside the city where she grows plantains, maize, and fruits. Sara’s goal is to have good earnings from this piece of land (as well as from her other business ventures) so that she can contribute to the household income.
