Phot Sok Nan

Phot Sok Nan is thirty-three years old and married with three school-age children. She lives with her husband in Takeo Province. She is engaged in a weaving business, typically earning an income of $3 a day. Her husband also generates income for the family as a farmer, earning $2 a day.

The world's financial crisis has been difficult for businesses in Cambodia this past year. This factor has created a difficult economic year for much of the country, the Phot Sok Nan's family included. The country's economic struggles always seem to affect the poor the most. In light of Cambodia's economic difficulties, Nan is seeking to increase her income and improve her business. She is asking for a loan of $700 to buy cows, a purchase that she sees as a great opportunity to produce maximum income and thus raise their standard of living.
