Ms. Lorena Andrade Andrade is 25 years old and lives with her husband, to whom she has been married for 10 years now. She is from the Las Trancas community, which belongs to the Tlalixcoyan municipality. Her community is well-known because people there mainly grow rice, cucumbers, and corn—the latter being the community’s main means of support.

In the beginning, she used to help her husband cultivate rice, but she states that it was very heavy work for her, and the weather conditions caused her to have health problems.

For this reason, Lorena looked for another way to help her husband financially, so she decided to set up her own stationery store because they did not have any in the area; residents had to travel to nearby communities.

She has been in business for only 6 months, and she decided to request a loan in order to better stock her store and provide better customer service.

Doña Lore, as she is known by her neighbors, is a member of the Las Rositas Group, which is comprised of 10 people who own general stores, candy stores, beverage stores, clothing and shoe stores.

LA SRA. LORENA ANDRADE ANDRADE TIENE 25 AÑOS DE EDAD Y VIVE CON SU ESPOSO CON QUIEN TIENE YA 10 AÑOS DE MATRIMONIO. ES ORIGINARIA DE LA COMUNIDAD DE LAS TRANCAS EL CUAL PERTENECE AL MUNICIPIO DE TLALIXCOYAN. SU LOCALIDAD ES MUY CONOCIDA POR QUE EN ELLA LA GENTE SE DEDICA PRINCIPALMENTE AL CULTIVO DE ARROZ, PEPINO Y MAIZ. SIENDO EL ARROZ EL PRINCIPAL SUSTENTO DE LA COMUNIDAD.

INICIALMENTE ELLA AYUDABA A SU ESPOSO EN LAS LABORES DEL CAMPO, SEMBRANDO ARROZ. PERO COMENTA ELLA QUE ERA UNA ACTIVIDAD MUY PESADA PARA ELLA YA QUE LAS CONDICIONES CLIMATICAS LE CAUSABAN PROBLEMAS DE SALUD.

ES POR ESTO QUE LA SEÑORA BUSCO OTRA FORMA DE APOYAR A SU ESPOSO ECONOMICAMENTE Y SE DECIDIO EN PONER UNA PAPELERIA YA QUE EN LA COMUNIDAD NO HABIA NINGUNA. LA GENTE TENIA QUE TRASLADARSE A COMUNIDADES ALEDAÑAS.

Now " las trancas" has a new school supply store / Ahora "Las Trancas" tiene una nueva papeliería

Entrepreneur: Las Rositas Group
Location: Piedras Negras, Ver. Mex, Mexico

Mrs. Lorena is member of de Development Unit (UDE) “Las rositas” how received a loan of KIVA. The UDE´s are groups of 10 persons or more, how have a bank account and they have met every week or 2 weeks to pay the loan. They have a representative and a government committee. Now they are paying her loan.

Lorena install a school supply store in her house and she borrowed to invest in more products. She told us that she decided start with a school supply store, because in her community did not have a school supple store. With the loan she could go to Cordoba in bus (travel of 2 hours) to buy merchandise, and then sell it. Now she save her gains to pay de car license and do not pay the bus. And with this the travel to Cordoba will be 45 minutes. And she could buy more merchandise and improve her business.

She wants a place special with a copying machine and glass case.

Every business of the Groups are improving.
