Sao Nhanh

Sao Nhanh, age 36, is married and has six children. She lives with her husband in Takeo Province. To make a living, she is engaged in a small business of producing Cambodian traditional cake (bananas with rice wrapped together in banana leaves), typically earning a gross income of US $4.00 per day. Her husband also plays a major role in the family finances. To generate a better source of income for his family, he is engaged in a business transporting palm sugar to sell with an income of US $9 per day. The family is also assisted by two of her children who are currently employed in a local garment factory.

The financial crisis has been difficult for business in Cambodia this past year. This factor has played into a difficult economic year for much of the country, Nhanh included. The country's economic struggles always seem to affect the poor the most.

In light of the country's economic difficulties, Nhanh is seeking to increase her income and improve her business. She is asking for a loan of US$ 1000 to purchase a motorbike and a trailer, a purchase that she sees as a great opportunity to collect coconuts from her village and other nearby places and sell them off at a fair but profitable price.
