Petronilla Shivachi

It was a joyful day on 2nd Jan 2006 when Petronilla received the loan money of $500. She shared the joy with her children who she hugged passionately after receiving the money. She has since increased more product lines at her provision store. Mobile phone cards are now available in the village of Eregi. She is also now selling cold soda.

Lakev groceries has witnessed an influx of new customers in the last 4 days. According to Petronilla who just explodes with smiles at this delight, this is as a result of the new Mobile phone air time cards she has introduced using the KIVA loan. She says she is determined to be the best woman business person in the district. Given the influx of new customers, Betty, as she is called locally, is certain to turn in her first instalment repayment on time. She thanks KIVA for the help and hopes that God will help the lender even more.

Betty has reason to smile after she re-invested her profits in a new product line, maize and beans seed. She did this to take advantage of the rain season which has set in. She has already finished her stock and made the buck. Betty says she is keen to complete repayment of the kiva loan as soon as possible, and possible apply for more. She wishes that one day she will get a photograph of her sponsor.

Petronilla has finally leased another premise where she has opened her branch in a small market called Makhokho. For the past three months her sales have been good necessiting her to go for re-stocking every Tuesday. She is up beat that this place will be equally profitable.

She has also invested in a new line of farm produce and is currently storing at her house as she waits foir the prices to go up.

on June 25, I visited Petronilla Shivachi. Petronilla has now three businesses, thanks to the Kiva loan of $500. She has two grocery shops and has started a new business premise- Lakev Hotel.

Petronilla hopes to tap into the student population at a tertiary college at Sigalagala by making good food at an affordable price. She also will be opening late to give her a competitive advantage.

Petronilla has promised to pay back the full balance of her loan by week one of July 2007. Her expansion program prevented her from masking an early clearance as she had to fund her operations to start the new business.
