Born in the Zambezia province of Mozambique, Xavier Ordem Gasolina is 43 years old, married, and the father of three kids ages 6-16, all enrolled in school. In addition to supporting his wife and children, he is also responsible for supporting his parents, sending them 1.000,00 mt per semester.

His schooling was interrupted in 10th grade so that he could fulfill his obligatory military service, after which time he took a basic course to become a police man and started working as a criminal investigation police officer in Michafutene. After resuming his high-school schooling years later, Xavier was promoted and sent to work in the town of Vila Namaacha, on the border of Swaziland, as Principal Sargeant at the town's police station. This work, with its schedule of 48 hours on/48 hours off, earns him a monthly salary of 5.500.00 mt.

With his wife's help he was able to build a chicken coop and start a poultry raising business to improve the family's income. On average, he raises 4x100 boxes of baby chicks, profiting 10.000.00MT for each 28.000.00 mt spent.

This is Xavier's third loan with Hluvuku, and the first with Kiva. His first and second loans (14.000,00mt and 15.000,00mt, respectively) were also invested in the chicken raising business, and now that business is picking up, Xavier needs to invest some more money in it to answer the growing demand for his chickens. He plans to use the current loan of 22.000,00 mt to buy more one day-old chicks to raise and chicken feed.

Xavier is confident that he will be able to repay this loan before the end of the 15 month-term, and plans to apply for more loans in the future, to build a bigger coop and start raising ducks, turkeys and geese in addition to chickens.
