Mara Group

Rahma Mohamed, age 28, is single with one daughter who is three years old. She has a beauty salon that she started three years ago. She works from 10am to 7pm daily, and she is able to earn a monthly profit of about $113.

This will be Rahma’s third loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. She used the previous loans to expand her salon and started selling clothes and bed sheets, which she sells from door to door. She has paid the loans back successfully. She now hopes for a new loan to expand both businesses.

Rahma will share this loan with her loan group, Mara, which totals 15 members. These members hold each other accountable in paying back their loans. In the picture, Rahma is first on the right, back row, in a red t-shirt.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
