Gregoria de la Cruz, pictured second from the left, is the coordinator of this five-person group. She is a single mother of four children, and resides in the sector of Guaricanos, in Santo Domingo Norte, along with two of her daughters and a one-year-old granddaughter. One of her daughters, 41 years old, is deaf-mute, and Gregoria maintains her in her home. Gregoria loves her intensely and has her help out with her business. She has been selling silver jewelry in the streets for the last year, though she used to sell similar things for many years up until five years ago, when her business slowed to a stop, and she had to find a waged job.
This will be Gregoria’s 3rd loan, and with it she plans on purchasing a good amount of inventory at a great price from wholesalers. Specifically, she hopes to invest in silver chains, bracelets, rings, and earrings, which are always in high demand. By the end of this loan, she hopes to have multiplied her profits over what she borrowed, and increase her customer base. One of her goals for the near-future is to be able to invest in a display case to increase business.
One of Gregoria’s dreams is to eventually be able to establish a large business. She hopes to further herself and her family, and provide a bright future for her 1-year-old granddaughter. Gregoria also spoke emotionally about how she prays her deaf-mute daughter will find a husband and create a family of her own.
