Brígida Villegas Velarde

La señora Brígida Villegas has started a Haas avocado orchard in the small indigenous village called Donaciano Ojeda in the state of Michoacán. She has requested this loan for her orchard so that she can buy more avocado trees and organic fertilizer to nourish the soil and not damage the environment. Sra. Brígida will also pay for technical support to advise her family how to eliminate diseases and pests in the safest way and still provide optimal conditions for her avocado trees to grow. It is important to mention that this region is well known for its avocados, so the fruit is of the best quality. In addition to being a farmer, Sra. Brígida is a craftswoman who makes embroidered napkins and ocoshal (beautiful pieces made of woven pine fibers collected from the forest).

Sra. Brígida is 30 years old and married to Don Vinicio (age 32), who works as a porter at a supply depot in Mexico City. He is away from his family most of the time because of his work. Don Vinicio never had the chance to study, so he and Sra. Brígida want their four children to explore and have more opportunities. At this time, they need the capital to invest in their avocado orchard and are confident that this will pay off financially.

Sra. Brígida hopes that her avocado orchard is profitable enough so that her husband does not have to travel to Mexico City each week for work and that her children can grow up with their father around them.
