Composed of 8 rural men, mostly polygamous, the members of the Sabougnouma 1 group have an average age of 39 and on average 8 children. They all live in traditional extended families with their spouses, brothers, sisters, and children in the village of Sogola, township of Bougouni, Sikasso region, Republic of Mali. They met because of friendships and due to being neighbors, and they all do the same agricultural work.

With the intention of increasing their agricultural output and growing enough to feed their families, they decided to join the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso. They are on their second rural loan after having reimbursed the preceding one correctly.

With this loan these men intend, for 13 hectares of maize, to buy 40 sacks of fertilizer (16 of a cereal complex and 24 sacks of urea), 15 containers of herbicide, and pay for weeding. All the agricultural inputs bought by this group will come from the market in Bougouni. They expect a total production of 32 tons of maize. Part of this production will be consumed by their families and the rest will be sold wholesale and for cash to the business people of Bougouni.

At the end of the growing season, the group hopes to have a profit of 350,000 F CFA which will be used to pay school fees for their children.
