Mr. Mamadou TRAORE, 31, lives with his wife and child in a big extended traditional family in Sanoubougou II, one of the working-class neighborhoods of the town of Sikasso (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

After receiving his D.E.F. diploma--which, in the Malian educational system, corresponds to a Middle School leaving certificate, Mr. Mamadou TRAORE left school to try out a number of money-earning activities, but without success. Then, he decided to learn a commercial trade, more specifically buying and selling cell phones and accessories (covers, batteries, chargers, headphones, etc.) which he has been doing for more than 5 years. He does business at a crossroads in Médine where he has a little shop. Mr. TRAORE is much sought after by his clientele due to the quality of his products.

Wishing to satisfy his ever growing clientele, he decided to join the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso about one year ago. He is on his second individual loan after having reimbursed the preceding one without difficulty.

With this new loan, he intends to buy 30 cell phones of various brands, 3 boxes of covers, 10 chargers, 20 packets of memory cards, 5 big clocks, 6 cartons of batteries, 4 dozen speakers, etc. He buys his merchandise in Bamako and resells his wares to a clientele composed generally of young people and especially itinerant merchants who come to the weekly fairs every Saturday and Sunday.

With this loan, he expects to make a monthly profit of 200,000 F CFA which will be used essentially to add to his working capital, contribute to covering family expenses, and pay the interest on the loan, investing any remainder back into his business.
