Las Afortunadas Group

The communal bank "Las Afortunadas" (The Fortunate Ones) was founded about four months ago. Most of the group's members live in a neighborhood called "26 de Marzo" (26th of March) in the city of Pucallpa. The bank's president is Teresa Ruiz Cumapa.

"Las Afortunadas" has 11 members, three of whom are new this loan cycle. For most members, this loan will be their second from Kiva partner Manuela Ramos. The bank's members are requesting a total of 4,400 soles, which each member will invest in her respective business. The women of "Las Afortunadas" dedicate themselves to a variety of business ventures, including the sale of charcoal, clothing, soft drinks, cooked food and fruits. Several of the women work as seamstresses.

The members of "Las Afortunadas" are grateful to Manuela Ramos for the financial support they are receiving. They also appreciate the business education sessions given by Manuela Ramos loan officers at their communal bank's monthly meetings. The women are dedicated to progressing with their businesses.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
