God's Grace Group

Elizabeth is 35, divorced, and has two daughters who are in school. She is very dedicated to her family. She is a food vendor and sells rice with gravy stew in her community. She started her operation about ten years ago in order to take care of her home. However, her food production is on a low scale because of inadequate funds to support her business. She wants to use the loan to buy more meat, vegetables, and bags of rice, to increase her efficiency in producing larger quantities. She believes this will help expand her business, to raise more income to support the growth of her business and for her children's education.

She is the leader of a trust bank group called ‘God’s Grace’. She is the one sitting in front in the group photograph. Most of the members of this group are petty traders, food vendors and/or farmers. In this group, members guarantee for one another as social collateral to access the loan and for peer pressure to repay the loan.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
