Mrs. Phalla Tuon Village Bank Group

This village bank loan, which consists of twenty-five people, is located in Kampong village in Takeo province. Mrs. Phalla Tuon is the village bank president who has been selected by the other members.

Mrs. Phalla Tuon is 49 years old and the mother of five children, one of whom is employed in a garment factory while the others are enrolled in the local school. Mrs. Phalla Tuon is a farmer who owns 1.5-hectare (3.75-acre) field of land on which she cultivates rice to earn for living. She is also a dried-fish seller in the local market. Her husband, Mr. Bo Sorn, is a teacher in the local school.

Since her business is doing well, Mrs. Phalla Tuon wants to expand it by purchasing more dried fish to re-sell to earn more profits for her family.

Two members in this group loan have end-of-term (EoT) loans and the rest have monthly-payment loans. Those with EOT loans are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. EoT loans are AMK’s main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time. AMK has a delinquency rate of only 0.09% and AMK has a default rate of 0% on Kiva.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
