Diomema Grijaldo

Diomema Grijaldo is 50 years old, married with 5 adult children and lives in Sitio Tinago, Brgy. Anahaw, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.

She and her husband have a small fish pen that catches shrimp and other freshwater fishes, and a small oyster farm. She and her husband started this small business 29 years ago, and it has been the main source of income for their family. Her husband augments their family income by hiring out their family owned tricycle, a motorcycle with a sidecar attachment, to shuttle passengers around the town especially when demand for Oysters is low. At present their gross family income is around PHP12,800 or approximately $275/month.

The fish pen and the oyster farm has sustained her family over the years. Now one of her daughters is a teacher in a private high school, which helps, but she needs the loan of PHP 17,000 or $375 to repair and expand their oyster beds and fish pen so that it could gain enough income to also support her adult son whom she has invited to help in the business.

This is Diomema's 11th consecutive loan with Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation's Project Dungganon. She has been a member of good standing since 2004.
