Agapita Henriquez is the coordinator for Mujeres del Futuro, a microfinance group with Esperanza. She lives with her husband, Zacaria, in an impoverished area of Puerta Plata. Although she has no children, kids from the neighborhood love to come to her house to play. Agapita serves them food and watches them ride bikes, play ball, and run around at her house. She considers these children to be her own and gets a sense of joy from watching them grow up.

Agapita runs a small grocery shop from her home. There she sells a wide variety of raw foods, including plantains, tomatoes, and a variety of meats. She will use the loan from Esperanza to buy more food and expand her business. Ultimately, she plans to purchase a motoconcho, which is a cheap motorcycle. This transportation will help her transport her goods to a market where she believes that she will be able to sell a great deal more than by selling only in her quiet neighborhood.

In addition to improving and expanding her business, Agapita plans to use her increased earnings to improve her home and take care of some of her health problems. She would like to install new windows because her house is too dark during the day. Additionally, Agapita says that she has recently experienced a great deal of tension in her heart. She would like to buy some medicine to resolve that health problem. Your loan will give Agapita the means to run a successful business and subsequently improve her life and economic situation. Thank you for reading her story and for your consideration.
