Martiréz lives in Barrio Lindo outside San Pedro de Macoris. Even though the name means "beautiful neighborhood," Barrio Lindo can have its troubles. It is a town under development with constant construction, with a shortage of water and electricity, and an increase in crime -- you cannot walk by yourself after dark. Yet Martiréz and her group don’t seem to be bothered. They are happy and determined to manage their successful businesses.

Martiréz has been in business for over two years, but hopes to expand her small stand to include a little more variety to keep her clientele interested.
