Unity Group

Fatuma Diwani, age 49, is married with three children, ages 25, 18 and 17 years. She has two businesses; she sells fruits and vegetables and at the same time, she sells tea and chips. She has been doing this for seven years now. She works daily from 6am to midnight. She is able to earn a monthly profit of about $301.

This will be Fatuma's first loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. She wants a loan to buy a sack of potatoes, a bucket of cooking oil and wheat flour.

Fatuma will share this loan with her group, Unity, which totals 18 members. These members will hold each other accountable in paying back their loans. In the picture, Fatuma is first from the left in the front row.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
