Nancy Real is a 37-year-old woman living in the heart of a slum community. She is married and has three children.

Nancy owns and operates a variety store just in front of her house. She has been engaged in business for 10 years now. Business grew tremendously so she decided to put up a separate warehouse for soft drinks three years ago so she could stock up her inventory and supply the small stores within the community. Due to brisk business demands, she recently hired two assistants to attend to deliveries.

In the same year that she opened her soft drink warehouse, Nancy joined CCT Credit Cooperative to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and her ability to engage in business activities. She has successfully repaid a previous loan of Php100,000.00 from CCT. This previous loan was used to purchase additional products to sell.

Just two weeks ago, Nancy received her newest loan of Php50,000.00, which she used to invest in expanding her business. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve and expand her business. She also plans to renovate her soft drink warehouse. She also plans to add rice to her already growing business. She is also planning to purchase a delivery truck soon.

CCT is an organized Christian response against poverty and social injustice. This is carried out through the fusion of social development initiatives and evangelical mission in a uniquely Filipino context. It serves urban and rural poor communities throughout the Philippines, in pursuit of its desire to see changed lives, strong families, and transformed communities centered on the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Borrower Update

Entrepreneur: Nancy Real
Location: Manila City, Philippines

Dear Lenders,

Thank you for supporting Nancy’s businesses. The Php 50,000 (US$1,050) loan she received was used to expand her soft drink wholesale business and to construct an additional room unit for rent. With the increased capital used for purchasing more stocks, she now earns an additional Php8000 (US $166.67) per month on her soft drink business. The additional unit that she bought for rent is also earning Php 3,200 (US $66.67) per month.

Nancy learned the value of humility through their weekly fellowship meetings*. “We cannot live life thinking that we are superior to other people. Eventually, God will show us the error of our ways and then we will have to seek forgiveness.” She is at peace with her life having lots of friends in her fellowship group.

She prays that through their earnings, she and her husband can save enough money so that they can buy a house in a better subdivision for a safer community where their children can grow.

* All CCT community partners / clients are organized into fellowship groups that meet on a weekly basis. A fellowship group is composed of 15 to 30 community partners. The fellowship groups gather each week to study the Word of God, build social capital, and pay MF loans.
