Flora Meneses Gonzales is 37 years old and has been married for more than 17 years. She has 3 daughters, ages 15, 8, and 6. The three girls help care for the cows after school. Flora lives in the community of Maica Central in Cochabamba, where she has 3 cows, whose milk she sells to a micro-business that has been making cheese for more than 15 years.

Flora takes care of the cows all day with the help of her sister-in-law, a 17 year girl who goes to school at night. Her husband works as a carpenter out of their home, making doors, chairs, tables, etc.

This loan will be used to purchase feed for her cattle, ensiled sorghum, cornhusks, and balanced feed. Improving the feed for the dairy cows will increase their milk production, and thus increase her income so that she can purchase more cows and improve her quality of life. In the future she dreams of taking out another loan to purchase more cows.

Update from Bolivia on your loan!

Entrepreneur: Flora Meneses Gonzales
Location: Cochabamba, Bolivia

This past Thursday, I had the opportunity to stop by Flora’s home to see how this loan cycle has been for her so far. With the loan from CIDRE, Flora purchased a cow as well as cattle feed including corn and soy husks. Her business has been going well, and so far, she has had no trouble making her loan repayments on time.

The loan has helped Flora to increase her milk production, which allows her to make more soft cheese, which she sells in the market. Flora hopes that this loan cycle will help her to increase her earnings so she can save to remodel her home.

Below is a photo of Flora taken during my visit last Thursday.

CIDRE’s mission is to contribute to the sustainable development of small-level dairy/livestock producers and of rural and semi-urban micro and small businesses, through the provision of quality financial services. Their principle goal is to be a leading entity in the provision of financial services, characterized by providing efficient service with sound ethics, creativity, and social engagement with the community. CIDRE is a new Kiva partner as of June 2009; to support more of CIDRE’s Kiva clients, follow this link!: http://bit.ly/1A5JLc
