Chelsea Group

These gentlemen are small-scale businessmen in Makeni City, in northern Sierra Leone. They named their group after their favorite football team, Chelsea. This will be the first loan they are accessing from SMT/Kiva. Business has been growing at a very slow pace for these entrepreneurs, but with the help of a loan, their businesses will develop at a faster rate and make better profit, so that their living standards will improve.

Gibo Akim Kamara (right) is the leader of the group. Gibo was born in Makeni city thirty-two years ago. He is married to a businesswoman and they have two children. One of their children is in class six and the other is in class two. Gibo owns a shop in which he sells a variety of items including drinks, biscuits, sugar, batteries, onions, etc. He has been in this business for more than ten years now.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
