Doris Ortencia Inuma Rojas

Doris originally comes from an indigenous Shipibo community and speaks Spanish as her second language. Doris and her husband run an auto parts shop on the main road that connects Pucallpa with the faraway capital Lima. The couple’s shop is located a few miles outside of Pucallpa. The family business is in Doris's name but is called “Autopartes Villa” (after the last name of Doris’s husband).

Doris is a member of the communal bank, “Mujeres Perseverantes” (Persevering Women) and has been working with Manuela Ramos for two-and-a-half years. She was one of the five founding members of her communal bank. Doris plans to use this loan of 2500 soles to buy more parts for the shop. Doris and her husband told me that their business is doing well. They are building up bit by bit. Although more capital would be useful to expand the amount of merchandise offered by the shop, Doris must be careful to only borrow as much as she can pay back. She has always been punctual with her loan payments.

Doris has one child, a five-year-old daughter who is in kindergarten. In this short video clip, Doris talks about her goal of expanding her business and increasing the variety of products available to customers.
