Kong Sokhom's Group

There are four low-income people who have decided to seek a loan for different purposes. One of these people, Mrs. Kong Sokhom, 46, has been chosen to be the leader of this loan group by the other members. Kong Sokhom currently works cleaning rooms for a small firm. She gets a specific salary of $70 a month to manage her family’s needs. She is married with one teenage child who is still unemployed, while her husband works in construction. Kong Sokhom currently faces difficulties with water system use; she always buys water for her own family's use at an expensive price from her neighbors. She hopes to reduce this cost by using a loan to pay for connecting a new water system. The other three borrowers are: Mr. Uk Sokha, a security guard, who is asking for a loan to pay for connecting a watering system; Mr. Keo Sophonna, who will be using the loan money to pay the water system fee; and Mrs. San Channy, who is requesting a loan to buy a motor for the family’s traveling needs.

About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
