Sophoin Chheun, 33, and her husband, Sovan Heng, 39, have been married since 1992 and have three children - two sons and one daughter. One of them is in primary school. Besides her children, her old parents also live with her. The family lives in a small village across the Mekong River about 15 kilometers from Phnom Penh.
Since two years Sophoin has been into silk weaving, a skill she learned from her neighbor. She sells her finished products to a middle man in the village, who then sells them in the market located in Phnom Penh. Sovan Heng is a farmer, who grows corn and tomatoes in his farmland and who also raises cows.
Sophoin is asking for her first loan of $1,000 to purchase silk material for her weaving business, to set up one more loom and to buy cows for her husband to raise.
