Byambasuren Dorj

Byambasuren Dorj is 64 years old and lives with his wife and two grown-up daughters in Arhangai province, one of Mongolia's central provinces. Byambasuren and his wife are both retired and live on their pension.

Since the pension compensation is not enough to support his family, Byambasuren has started a small retail business with his wife. He sells, in the local market, various women’s and men’s clothes imported from China. He frequently travels to Ereen, China, a border town where many of Chinese cheap products are imported from, and purchases cheap yet in-demand clothes for both women and men. When he is away traveling to China, his wife sits at the local market and sells the clothes.

Since the start in 2002, he has done well; his business capital has increased from 300,000 MNT ($1 USD = 1,450 MNT) to 3,500,000 MNT. He says that he would like to expand his business as capital allows. He requests a loan to purchase more clothes from Ereen for his retail business.
