Mr Mamoutou Keita is 38 years old, and lives with his two children and his wife, together with other households, at his uncle's, in an extended traditional family in the Médine neighborhood in the city of Ségou (fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

Having never attended school for religious reasons, he started working early on with his older brother, who used to sell spare parts at the grand market in Ségou. After several years of learning with him, he acquired a strong experience as a motorcycle spare parts reseller. This is why, eight years ago, he decided to go his separate way in this field in the Médine neighborhood in Ségou. His store is located at the market center, and is easy to get to. Mamoutou is kind, and many motorcycle repairmen and owners work with him.

In order to meet the demand of his steeply increasing clientele, he's seeking his first loan from Kiva's partner, the microfinance organization Soro Yiriwaso. He intends to use it to buy 1 box of cylinders, 30 tires, and 2 boxes of motorcycle spark plugs from wholesalers in Ségou. Mamoutou Keita retails for cash and on one-month credit, to a clientele comprising both men and women.

With this loan, he hopes to turn a monthly profit of XOF 100'000 (ca US$ 215), that will in part be reinvested in his business, and in part used to provide for the daily expenses of his extended family (food, clothes, heath care, and education). He ambitions to have his own house.
