Kareema

Kareema is 54 years old. She has ten children, six of whom are married and financially independent from the family. Her other four children still live at home: two of them are under 18 years old and still at school, while the other two are working at the family barber shop.

The barber shop is the only source of income for the family since Kareema's husband does not work. Kareema started the business three years ago in order to give her children a career. They were already trained to do haircutting and had worked for a while at other barber shops.

Kareema helps her two children by buying all the merchandise and cleaning the shop. The new loan will be used to pay for the shop rent since they decided to move to a new, bigger shop that has a better location.

This is Kareema's second loan. Her first loan was for $700 and was fully repaid on time.

Kareema's son appears in the photo at his saloon after they moved to the new location and did some renovation. Kareema doesn't appear in the photo for social reasons.
