Hermelinda is a 45-year-old woman who lives with the father of her 6 children, 3 of whom live with them. Her house is mostly made of wood, but she is planning on soon building the other part with sturdier material—cement. When she was young, she used to work in agriculture alongside her parents, but she did not like that. Instead, she aimed to work as a fruit and vegetable vendor. As soon as she started her own family, she proposed the idea to her partner, who did not go along with it at first. However, Hermelinda persevered until she finally became a prosperous green grocer in her city. Her husband now helps her anytime time she has to visit the most distant farms in search of low prices to weigh and carry the banana bunches and oranges by the hundreds. She is a dynamic merchant who likes to get ahead by means of her labor. For this reason, she has invested her profits in home improvement and in providing an education for her children. Hermelinda motivates the other group members of the microfinance institute so that they can make their payments on time, setting the example herself and working responsibly. She will invest the money that she is requesting in purchasing bananas and oranges so that she can increase her working capital.
