Tacheyomigbachi Group

This is Isatu Kanu, Isatu Koroma and Kadiatu Sesay. They named their group Tache Yo M’Gbachi, a Temne phrase meaning "Let us be firm". They are local entrepreneurs based in Makeni, in northern Sierra Leone. This is the first loan these women are receiving from SMT/Kiva. They want a loan to help them develop their businesses, because they have seen how microloans have been helping others’ businesses grow.

Isatu Kanu (pictured in the middle) is the leader of the group. Isatu is thirty-two years old. She was born in Makeni, is married to a motor driver and they have four children. Two of their children are in primary school and two are in secondary school. Isatu sells dishes, bowls and other plastic items. She has been a businesswoman for five years now. With this loan, she will travel to neighboring Guinea to buy more goods to sell. Goods are usually cheaper in neighboring Guinea.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
