Agnes is the leader of four members of a group. She is a 28 years old and married with one child aged 1 year. She resides in and rents a one-roomed house where she is living with three people. Agnes doesn’t take care of any additional family members There is electricity but no piped water at her home. The family gets two meals a day.

Agnes resides and works in a semi-urban area which is in the outskirts of Kampala. She owns a retail shop in Makerere, one of Kampala’s suburbs, selling home products materials. She sells to an average of fifteen people a day and sells to all categories of people. She works seven days a week. She uses public transport to and from shopping in Kampala City shops. Her major monthly expenses include medication, rent for both her home and business and feeding the family.

Agnes has been in this business for the last two years. Her main challenge is transportation of her products from town to her premises and license fees. She has been with MCDT for over eight months and is servicing her second loan, working with the same group members. She wants to use this loan to buy more sugar, salt, soap and cooking oil for her shop. Agnes is aspiring to see her business grow bigger and to own another wholesale shop.
