Helena Francisco Nweti was born in Matatuine district. She is married and the mother of two children (19 and 13 years old), one who is the youngest student at one of the official schools in Boane. Helena studied through seventh grade because she lost her parents very early. A native of the city Maputo, she has lived in Boane for more than 20 years with her husband. They live in their own home.

She learned how to run a business during five years of unemployment, having to learn this with her older sibling who also learned by experience. Her specialty is selling sodas, and she makes a monthly income of 300 MT (meticais). This is Elena's second loan with Hluvuku (Kiva's Field Partner) and her first with Kiva. She will use it to buy a variety of products. This is not her first experience with a lending institution; she was a client of two small banks that work in the district. At Hluvuku, she likes the good service and using monthly installments. Her first loan was for 13,000 MT (meticais), which she used to strengthen her business. With the loan of 15,000 MT, the business will improve because she will be able to meet the demand and positively maintain the stability of her business with clients who are more and more satisfied.

Helena's dream is to build an establishment with conventional materials to develop her business in a dignified setting. She says that requisite for reaching her future objectives is paying her loans properly.

Update on Helena Francisco Nweti's Kiva Loan!

Entrepreneur: Helena Francisco Nweti
Location: Boane, Maputo, Mozambique

Helena Nweti has been in business buying and selling diverse goods since 2000. She usually buys her products in South Africa and brings them back to Mozambique to sell. With her most recent loan she went to South African and bought a new lot of goods. Recently her sales have been lower than normal due to a number of factors. The cold weather is hurting sales of her best selling product, beer, and the customs officers on the South African border are no longer allowing Mozambicans to import beer from South Africa. She expects normal sales of domestic beer to increase sharply in the coming months as the temperature begins to increase again.

With the profits Helena has made from her business she has been able to make noticeable improvements in her living conditions. She is most proud of the refrigerator that she recently purchased. In the future Helena would like to buy her own store front from which to sell her goods. She is currently renting a place to sell her goods. She plans on seeking another loan to facilitate this purchase.

Helena has previously worked with another MFI that only did group lending. She decided to work with Hluvuku because she could take out an individual loan of a higher amount.

Thanks for being a part of Helena's success!
