Sopheap Chea

Mrs. Sopheap Chea, age 37, and her husband, Mr. Saphai Morm, age 42, have been married since 1991. They have five children, four sons and one daughter. Four of their children are studying in a local school, and the youngest one stays at home. Sopheap and her family live along National Road Number one, about fifteen kilometers from Phnom Penh.

Sopheap has been weaving cotton scarves since 1985. It’s a skill she learned from her neighbor. She sells her finished products in Olympic market, located in Phnom Penh. Her husband is a teacher. She has set up three looms under her house. Sopheap is able to only use one loom because she doesn’t have enough capital to purchase cotton threads. Now Sopheap is requesting second loan of $1,000 in order to purchase cotton thread materials for her three looms.
