Julia Petrona Mairena is 40 years old and she is a single Mom. She has 4 children in her care. She runs a business selling general merchandise. She has been running this business for more than 5 years and it is important to note that she carries out her business from door to door. She started out with the goal of covering the family's expenses and to help her husband so that together the family will be taken care of. Julia brings cosmetic products to customers in companies, schools, and stores etc. Julia's dream is to keep up her business and to have greater resources to invest in her inventory. She also dreams to making improvements to her home so that her children will have a decent place to live in the future.

Julia Petrona Mairena tiene la edad de 40 años, es una madre soltera. Tiene 4 hijos a su cargo. La actividad económica es la venta de mercadería en general. Hace mas de 5 que se dedica a este negocio, pero importante resaltar que es un negocio ambulante, que nació con el objetivo de apoyar en los gastos de su familia y así ayudar a su esposo para que juntos su familia salga adelante, la metodología que Julia utiliza es brindar los productos de cosméticos a personas que trabajan en instituciones, colegios, tiendas entre otros. Julia tiene como sueño mantener su negocio y lograr obtener más recursos para invertir su inventario y también proporcionarle mejoras a su vivienda para que sus hijos tengan un lugar decente donde vivir el día de mañana.


Important Information About This Loan
In mid 2008, a movement began in Nicaragua called “Movimiento No Pago” (a movement for non-payment of loans). This movement, supported mostly by farmers of the north of Nicaragua with ties to the left-wing party in Nicaragua, has been organizing protests and making it difficult for some branches of microfinance institutions to operate normally. This movement has been fed by the global the economic crisis, which has made it more difficult for Nicaraguans to pay back their loans. This group has submitted a law to the government to create a moratorium on debt repayment. If passed, the law could have a severe effect on the microfinance industry and banking sector in Nicaragua. Recent information indicates that the situation may be improving as the President of Nicaragua has spoken out against this law and would not support its passage in its current form. The network of microfinance institutions in Nicaragua (ASOMIF) has been negotiating with the government in support of an alternative proposal. Kiva, along with 25 other funders from 9 countries, has signed onto a letter to the Nicaraguan government urging a resolution to this situation without enacting a moratorium on debt repayment. The potential passage of the debt moratorium increases the risk of lending in Nicaragua.
