Gulnara Kiribaeva’s Group

Gulnara Kiribaeva is the director and developer of the Center of Temporary Stay for Orphaned Children in the town of Orlovka. The Center was started five years ago and currently hosts 41 children between the ages of 4 and 17 years. Some of the children came to the center by themselves and the others were guided by neighbors or the city administration. When a foster child turns 17, Gulnara helps him/her to get into college in Bishkek (the capital of Kyrgyzstan) and provides all possible assistance with their future. At present, the Center exists on donations from private individuals and various organizations.

Gulnara organized a loan group among her workers, who are mainly homeless people. All of them plan to spend their loans to buy and raise livestock. The workers hope to use their proceeds to maintain their families. Gulnara, in turn, is planning to breed livestock in order to generate income for the Center. Also, Gulnara will be able to sell milk and calves at the market, so she can purchase necessary clothing and materials and pay for utilities.

Gulnara Kiribaeva is married and has three children. She is a former employee of the district public education department in the town of Orlovka. She used to work with orphans, but when she saw all the problems these children were facing, she decided to open the Center.

About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
