Mrs. Chansihoeun Nao, 48, and her husband, Mr. Heang Pech, 54, were married in 1984 and have four children: one son and three daughters. Two of her children are married and live outside the family home; another one is in grade 9 and the youngest son stays at home. Besides her children, she also has an aged mother who is living with her. The family lives along National Road Number One about fifteen kilometers from Phnom Penh.
Chansihoeun has been selling vegetables and fish phork for over thirty years (fish phork is made of chopped fish, salt, sugar, yeast and rice, placed in large airtight jars and allowed to ferment). She buys fish from a fisherman to make phork at her house and sells it in her village and nearby villages. Her husband assists his wife in the business.
Chansihoeun hopes to purchase more vegetables and fish to make phork. It would be better for her to increase her income to support her family, but she doesn’t have enough capital. That’s why she is asking for her first loan of $500 to use for this purpose.
