Iokapeta is a 46-year old mother, married with 7 children. Her 5 older children have successfully finished school and are now working. Her two youngest children are still in school. Iokapeta is justifiably very proud of having provided an education for her oldest children, and she is determined to keep the younger two in school as well. She admits that all this wouldn’t have been possible without the income from her banana plantation. She has used SPBD loans to build up this plantation to where it is today, providing a steady income, and thus a means to making real improvements in the family’s standard of living. She has used four previous SPBD loans to achieve this and having repaid these loans in full and on time, she is eligible for a fifth loan that she will use for making some much-needed repairs to her home.

Update on Lokapeta's business

Entrepreneur: Iokapeta Lealaisalanoa
Location: Vaimoso, Samoa

Lokapeta Lealaisalanoa has 7 children who are between the ages of 28 and 11. She is a member of Vaimoso P center which is located in Upolu, the main island of Samoa. She has a vegetable garden business, where she grows vegetables such as cabbage, cucumber and tomatoes. The loan officer who is in charge of her center says Lokapeta is a very good member. She repays her loan on time, always attends her weekly meetings, and is enthusiastic about expanding her business.

She has used her previous loan to purchase seeds, fertilizers and pesticides for her business. She says her business is doing well. She also says that the Kiva loans and SPBD loans are not only helping her business grow, but also helping her send her children to school, feed her family better, and improve her housing.

When asked if she has any words to the Kiva lenders, she said “Thank you for helping my business grow.”
