Kiria lives within PMI Nkwen, Bamenda, in the northwest region. She is married: her husband’s name is Boba Malafa. They have six children, all under the age of 15. She intends to invest her loan in her roadside business of frying and selling puff-puff (fried dough) with beans. Specifically, she wishes to purchase one bag of beans, one bag of flour, and a tin of oil. She will also apply part of the loan toward her farming endeavors.

Kiria first heard about GHAPE in 2004, and this will be her fourth loan. She has repaid her previous loans satisfactorily. This loan will help her improve on her puff-puff business because she will have enough capital to expand on her business. She is convinced that her business will succeed because of her considerable experience in this work. Her business helps her community because she provides affordable food for people.

Kiria feels that her loans through GHAPE have benefited her because the method of repayment is comfortable and convenient, and because GHAPE provides training as well as proper follow-up after the loan is disbursed to ensure that the loan is properly managed.

About GHAPE

The Grounded and Holistic Approach to People's Empowerment (GHAPE) is a non-profit NGO based in Bamenda, Cameroon. GHAPE works towards the empowerment of the poor and poverty alleviation through a highly multi-faceted approach. Every client is trained in business management, basic health, life skills, financial management, profits and losses, and family values. Clients are also required to contribute a small amount into a personal savings account; most clients save much more than the minimum requirement. GHAPE instils a sense of family and community within its clients and staff and has developed a strong bond of trust between the organization and its clients.
