Rani baji, Razia baji, and Nasreen baji each want a loan to buy groceries for their grocery shops. Bushra baji and Bilquis baji each want a loan to buy material (colored thread, clothes and beads) for their decorative embroidery business. Parveen baji wants a loan to change the body of her auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle).

Bilquis baji is the ladies' group leader. They all live in a midsize city named Riwind, Pakistan. They all handle their own businesses to share the financial burden of their husbands. Bilquis baji takes orders for her decorative embroidery business from her relatives and neighbors, and after completing each order she earns money. She saves her money in a committee and plans to use it to expand her embroidery business. Her husband drives a donkey cart for carrying items like fruits and vegetables and construction supplies. She is applying for a loan to buy a new donkey cart because the old cart rotted and was run down.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.
